Now that the rainy season has started again, we’ve given out farming loans to about 60 families. With this loan they stand a far better chance of getting enough income from their farms. For an average of €30 farmers (both men and women) are able to use a tractor to plough, buy seeds and fertilizer. The main crops are yam, maize, groundnuts, millet, guinea corn and soya beans. The loan scheme should help them achieve financial independence in 3-5 years.
Word about the loans is getting round, and if we’d had another €500, we could have easily given it out! We’ve had to turn some people down, but we are working on plans to expand the Farming Fund considerably next year. Thank you to those of you who have contributed so far!
